Cool isnt it? That triggered something in me. Maybe i should have one too? Looking at the size of it, i knew it was going to be a very expensive item. But what's wrong with having one? Hehehe.
Without wasting time, i went to find "my best friend", Trademe. I searched for boat models and found a few that were really nice. I checked the reserve and buy now price. I was, definitely was going to press either the buy now button or start bidding for it. It was over 100 nzd dollars. That price was really a big deal for a boat model. Then i thought to myself, i'd better wait and see how the bidding will go ( auction only ends in like 4 days).
At the mean time, i started checking other models like car, fighter plane, tank, and helicopter. I saw a few that were very cheap - 20 dollars reserve. Not bad eh!! Then only to realise made in china. It's not that i have something againt China, but all these models require very fine and precise details so that it will look real. So i ended looking at more expensive ones, eg . Tamiya models.
The name of Tamiya rings me back to childhood years. I still remember having a few Tamiya models. Those were really cheap ones. Like RM30 those days. The one that i liked most was liberty emperor. It was very common back then since it was the best looking one! With all the modifications (alloy rims, ultra-dash motor, sponge tyres, new frame - all just to make it light so it will be faster) that totalled up almost RM 1000, now i don't know where it ends up. Haha. Will find it when i go home this year..hehehe.
Ok back to me buying a model for my new found hobby. i browsed through a lot of models on trademe, even checked the prices over the internet - just in case if it's cheaper elsewhere, especially Malaysia. In the end, I found out that it is very expensive here!!! That didnt stop me from getting one from trademe due to urgent desire...lol.
Yeah, the browsing process never stopped till i saw these two models. One is a ferrari formula one car 2001 model and the other AH-64 apache (i admit i like helicopters)..
So, knowing that i should only own one of these two, guess which one did i buy? Hehe.
If you think that i bought the AH-64 apache, you are WRONG!!! hehehe. I decided to buy the F2001 car model, simply because it's pretty much a vintage model (6 years ago le). I checked prices elsewhere. It seemed that vintage models are more expensive. Rare collectible. I was so happy and bought it at a mere NZD 55 dollars.
In the auction, there were some extra parts that were given together with the model. I was wondering what are these parts for? Those cool wheels (as you can see in the picture below) are generic wheels and made to fit different types of car models. Little did i know that extra knowledge or expertise was required in this new hobby. I emailed the guy whom i bought the model kit from asking him about the knowledge that i need. To my shock, it wasnt just the knowledge, there are more parts that i need to make a complete model!! I was like, oh shit....i have to spend more money already and tamiya stuff is not cheap...then i thought to myself...whyla i so hiao, went to look at the neighbouring apartment...sigh.
The unassembled model
The extra parts - wheels
Since i have already bought it, then i thought to myself, this might be the only model that i will have...hehehe....just to console myself. Perhaps i dont really need to make a really nice and complete one...hehe...just for the fun of it la. So yeah, i am waiting for it to arrive now and have it assembled (cant wait actually - might buy some parts as well...lol). I'll post up pic of the assembled one...hehe..so wait ar..
